To apply for citizenship applicant must:
Be a Canadian Permanent Resident
Have been physically present in Canada for 1, 095 days (3 years) out of 5 years immediately before the application
Have filed taxes (if applicable)
Have demonstrated sufficient language skills at least CLB 4
Have passed Citizenship Test with at least 15 correct answers out of 20
Important
Physical Presence in Canada:
In physical presence calculation, applicants may include the time they spent in Canada as temporary residents or protected persons. Each day in this status counts as half a day, and the maximum number of days that can be counted toward your physical presence in Canada is 365.
A temporary resident is someone who is authorized to enter or stay in Canada as a:
Visitor
Student
Worker or
Temporary resident permit holder
A protected person is someone who:
Was found to be in need of protection or a convention refugee by the Immigration and Refugee Board or
Received a positive decision on a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
